Role Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Management Specialist to join our team and support the development and execution of agricultural projects in a desert environment. The specialist will be responsible for enabling projects from the pre-concept stage to concept development, execution, and successful operation. The projects will encompass a wide range, from pilot farming and farmer training facilities to large-scale commercial farms focusing on tree and annual crops. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in project management, a deep understanding of agricultural practices, and a passion for driving sustainable and impactful agricultural initiatives.

Our Climate Resilient Agriculture pillar focuses on Sustainable Agricultural Production, Food and Nutrition Security and Mitigating Climate Change. The project management specialist will provide essential project management skills combined with agriculture experience, to enable the development of our climate-resilient farming infrastructure in an efficient and timely manner. As such, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in bringing cutting-edge agricultural solutions to life, contributing to a sustainable and productive future.

Position description and responsibilities

  • Project Planning and Initiation:

Conduct comprehensive project assessments and feasibility studies to determine project viability and potential risks.

Collaborate with stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, deliverables, and timelines.

Develop detailed project plans, including resource allocation and budgeting, to ensure successful project initiation.

Create strategies to mitigate risks and anticipate potential challenges during project execution.

Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project success and develop tools to monitor progress.

  • Project Execution and Monitoring:

Support project implementation, ensuring adherence to best project management practices and agricultural standards.

Monitor project progress, identifying potential bottlenecks and risks, and promptly implementing corrective actions.

Facilitate regular project meetings, providing updates to stakeholders and soliciting feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Budget and Resource Management:

Support the management of project budgets, in order to ensure optimal allocation of resources and cost-effectiveness throughout the project lifecycle.

Liaise with procurement to secure necessary resources and equipment.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

Cultivate strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including farmers and suppliers.

Communicate project objectives, progress, and outcomes effectively to stakeholders, fostering trust and cooperation.

  • Quality Assurance and Compliance and Risk Management

Implement robust quality assurance measures to ensure the delivery of high-quality agricultural projects.

Support compliance with relevant regulations, permits, and environmental standards.

Identify potential risks and uncertainties associated with projects and develop mitigation plans.

Proactively address unforeseen challenges to minimize project disruptions and financial impacts.

  • Sustainability and Innovation:

Integrate sustainable agricultural practices and innovative technologies into project design and execution.

Explore and recommend cutting-edge approaches to enhance project efficiency and impact.

BACKGROUND, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • 3 years of experience minimum in project management, particularly in agricultural projects, preferably in the development of farming facilities
  • Proficient in project management software and tools.
  • Strong understanding of agricultural practices, including crop cultivation, farming techniques, and sustainable agriculture.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and with cross functional teams
  • Result orientation and ability to adapt to changing priorities and to manage change
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills to address project challenges.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture, Agronomy or Agricultural Engineering
  • PMP certification a plus
